Misreading The Miracle

Apr 12, 2026    Pastor Mark Ogletree

This powerful message challenges us to examine the difference between showing up for a moment versus committing to a movement. Using the story of Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb in John 20, we're invited to explore what happens when our pain distorts our perception of God's work in our lives. Mary arrived at the tomb expecting to find a body, but instead found an empty space—and her first thought wasn't resurrection, but removal. How often do we do the same? When doors close, relationships change, or situations don't go as planned, we immediately assume something has been taken from us rather than recognizing God might be doing something we don't yet understand. The message reveals a profound truth: delivered people love differently than those who follow casually. Mary had seven demons cast out of her, and that encounter transformed her from possessed to proclaiming, from bondage to devotion. She didn't just show up on the mountaintop moments; she was there at the cross, at the burial, and in the darkness of early morning at the tomb. Her devotion wasn't dependent on her understanding—it was rooted in her encounter. We're reminded that just because we don't see what God is doing doesn't mean He isn't working. The empty tomb wasn't proof of absence; it was proof of accomplishment.
